India-Japan Cooperation in Biodiversity Preservation. And International Big Cat Alliance


The International Big Cat Alliance is a multi-country, multi-agency coalition dedicated to big cat conservation and sustainable development. Seven big cats include Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar and the Cheetah out of these five big cats viz. Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard and Cheetah are found in India.


The Embassy of India in Tokyo hosted a seminar on "International Big Cat Alliance and India-Japan Cooperation in Biodiversity Preservation" earlier this month.


The event was addressed by Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan, Leena Nandan, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, Gobind Sagar Bhardwaj, Member Secretary, National Tiger Conservation Authority, and Vinod Kumar Yadav, Member, National Biodiversity Authority. Activity focused on the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) launched by India, other initiatives taken by India in the area of environment and biodiversity conservation, and India-Japan cooperation in this field.


During the seminar, speakers highlighted the importance of the IBCA in promoting best practices in big cat conservation and strengthening global efforts to protect these animals. They also emphasized the need for continued cooperation between India and Japan in environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation. The discussions also covered the significance of sustainable living practices and the role of community involvement in achieving long-term conservation goals.


Ambassador Sibi George shared information about the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative launched by PM Modi calling everyone around the world to plant a tree as a tribute to their mothers and make sustainable life choices.
