Emphasizing JICA’s catalytic role in promoting sustainable development and cross-border business cooperation, Takeuchi invited Indian and Japanese companies to explore partnerships aligned with high-impact social value. He outlined five key sectors where JICA is actively formulating or supporting projects and looking to scale impact through business engagement:

1. Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem

JICA is actively developing support initiatives for semiconductor manufacturing ecosystems in Gujarat and Assam. The approach includes:

  • Strengthening enablers such as infrastructure, human resource development, and policy frameworks.

  • Facilitating connections with Japan’s advanced semiconductor ecosystem—private firms, researchers, and support organizations.

  • Stimulating collaboration between Indian firms interested in semiconductors and Japanese companies with cutting-edge technologies.

2. Manufacturing Human Resource Development

To bridge the skill gap in manufacturing, JICA aims to collaborate with Japanese and Indian industries in establishing a robust mechanism for developing quality factory workforce. Key components include:

  • Priority employment support for participating companies.

  • Joint efforts in curriculum development and deployment of expert trainers.

This mutually beneficial model ensures a pipeline of trained professionals while strengthening industrial cooperation.

3. Building India’s Medical Device Ecosystem

In collaboration with AIIMS Delhi and Osaka University, JICA is working to create a competitive ecosystem for low-cost, robust medical equipment manufacturing in India. The initiative includes:

  • Establishment of a National Medical Device Centre at AIIMS Delhi.

  • Co-development of medical devices with Indian MSMEs and startups.

  • Strategic partnerships with skilled Japanese medical device developers to enhance international competitiveness.

4. Agriculture and Fisheries Collaboration Projects

JICA is implementing and formulating a broad range of agriculture and fisheries projects across Indian states, aiming to boost productivity and sustainability. Focus areas include:

  • Demonstration of high-quality, high-productivity farming practices.

  • Strengthening agricultural supply chains.

  • Development of organic fertilizers and aquaculture technologies.

  • Creating model farms and pilot projects as platforms for Indo-Japanese business partnerships.

5. Forestry and Wood Products Industry

With a track record of planting over 2.4 million hectares of forest area over three decades, JICA is now turning its focus toward sustainable use of wood resources. Key objectives include:

  • Promoting wood product industries, including eco-friendly wood housing.

  • Facilitating partnerships between:

    • Japanese wood construction companies with advanced technologies.

    • Indian construction firms looking to integrate sustainable wood architecture.

Concluding Remarks

Takeuchi concluded by inviting Indian and Japanese businesses to explore collaboration opportunities within these focus areas. He emphasized JICA’s readiness to support partnerships that drive mutual growth and social impact.

"If your company sees an opportunity to collaborate with JICA in any of these areas, we encourage you to reach out. We would be delighted to contribute to strengthening the India–Japan business partnership," he said.
