Minister Giriraj Singh Leads India’s Textile Push at India Trend Fair 2025 in Tokyo

Tokyo, July 15, 2025 – Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, arrived in Japan to spearhead participation in the 16th edition of the India Trend Fair 2025, being held in Tokyo from 15–17 July. Upon arrival, the Minister was warmly received by Ambassador of India to Japan, Sibi George.
The visit underscores the growing importance of India-Japan cooperation in the textile and apparel sector, and comes at a time when bilateral economic engagements are gaining renewed momentum. Giriraj Singh began his official engagements by visiting the Embassy of India in Tokyo, where he chaired a comprehensive briefing meeting led by Ambassador Sibi George. The discussion focused on emerging opportunities in the textile value chain and the broader scope of the India-Japan strategic partnership.

Inauguration of India Trend Fair 2025
The Minister formally inaugurated the India Trend Fair 2025 in Tokyo, a flagship event aimed at promoting Indian textile exports to the Japanese market. The fair is showcasing over 180 exhibitors from India, featuring a diverse range of apparel, fabrics, designs, and sustainable fashion to Japanese buyers, brands, and business leaders.
Present at the inauguration were senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles, representatives from Export Promotion Councils, Indian exhibitors, and Japanese stakeholders. In his Keynote Address, Giriraj Singh emphasized the importance of deepening trade ties and invited Japanese businesses to explore investment and sourcing opportunities in India—particularly in technical textiles, textile machinery, and e-commerce.
Ambassador Sibi George, in his opening remarks, highlighted the increasing interest of Japanese companies in India’s textile ecosystem, and welcomed greater engagement from Japanese stakeholders.
India Trend Fair 2025 has set a renewed tone for India-Japan textile cooperation, highlighting the potential of the two nations to co-create sustainable, high-quality, and innovation-led textile value chains for the global market.
Organized annually by JIIPA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles (India), Embassy of India, Tokyo, and the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), the India Trend Fair has become a premier B2B textile and apparel trade exhibition focused on promoting Indian products tailored for the Japanese market.

Strengthening Bilateral Industrial Partnerships
A significant feature of the Minister’s visit was the CEO Roundtable with Japanese textile and apparel industry leaders, where Giriraj Singh encouraged Japanese companies to invest in India’s technical textiles, fibre production, and machinery sectors. Ambassador George reiterated India’s commitment to fostering a future-ready and innovation-driven textile industry, in partnership with Japan.
Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary (Textiles), presented India’s policy framework and investment incentives, while Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council, spoke on emerging avenues of bilateral collaboration.
High-Level Business Interactions
Minister Giriraj Singh also held a series of high-level meetings with Japanese industry leaders to explore opportunities for collaboration and expansion:
Hideyuki Kohama, President & CEO of Workman Co. Ltd., discussed cooperation in technical textiles and functional garments.
Koichi Matsushima, President of YKK Corporation, briefed the Minister on their expansion plans in India.
Representatives from STYLEM engaged in discussions on scaling up their India presence.
Seiji Yano, President & CEO of DAISO Industries, explored avenues for future collaboration in the textile domain.
Representatives of Asahi Kasei Corporation discussed opportunities for collaboration in the textile materials sector.
Seiji Nakashima, Corporate Vice President of Konica Minolta Inc., met the Minister to explore investment opportunities in digital printing and textile machinery.
Representatives from Juki Corporation engaged in discussions on potential collaborations in textile machinery.
Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
During his visit, Shri Giriraj Singh also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi by offering floral tributes at his statue in Tokyo—a symbolic gesture reinforcing the spirit of peace and shared values between India and Japan.
