Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake an Official Working Visit to Japan from 29–30 August 2025 at the invitation of PrAugust im, 2025e Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The visit marks an important milestone in the India–Japan Annual Summit 2025, reflecting the enduring strength of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations.
Strengthening the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will hold a bilateral meeting and working dinner with Prime Minister Ishiba, marking their second bilateral summit since Ishiba took office. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s eighth visit to Japan as India’s leader, underscoring the consistent priority India places on ties with Japan.
The leaders will also jointly visit Miyagi Prefecture, symbolizing the deepening cultural and regional cooperation between India and Japan beyond capital-to-capital engagement.
Focus Areas of the 15th India–Japan Annual Summit
The discussions will comprehensively review the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, covering:
Defence and Security Cooperation – advancing maritime security, defence manufacturing, and regional stability.
Trade and Economic Ties – expanding investments, supply chain resilience, and infrastructure development.
Technology and Innovation – collaboration in digital transformation, AI, clean energy, and emerging technologies.
People-to-People Exchanges – strengthening cultural ties, academic exchanges, and mobility of skilled professionals.
Regional and Global Issues – consultations on Indo-Pacific cooperation, multilateral reform, and pressing geopolitical challenges.

The Government of Japan has welcomed the visit warmly, expressing confidence that it will further strengthen Japan–India friendship and cooperation. Similarly, India views Japan as a key pillar of its Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision, making the Annual Summit an essential platform to shape the future of bilateral ties.
