The India Pavilion, known as Bharat Mandap, marked India’s 79th Independence Day with a spectacular celebration of its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka. The event highlighted not only India’s cultural diversity but also its growing global presence and partnership with Japan.

Dignitaries and Official Ceremony
The celebration was led by a distinguished Indian delegation, headed by Pradeep Singh Kharola, Chairman & Managing Director, ITPO and Commissioner General of the India Pavilion, along with Ambassador Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan. Special remarks were delivered by Koji Haneda, Commissioner General of World Expo 2025, Osaka, underscoring the strong India–Japan partnership.
The day began with the Flag Raising Ceremony at the National Day Hall, followed by a keynote address from Ambassador Sibi George.

Parade & Cultural Extravaganza
The National Day Parade, held near the Bharat Mandap, was a centerpiece of the festivities. It showcased the vibrancy of Indian traditions through spectacular performances — the high-energy Bhangra, graceful Kathak, colorful Rajasthani folk dances, and the rhythmic Koli Dance. A vibrant medley tied the celebration together, enthralling audiences and drawing applause for the rich cultural tapestry of India.

A Blend of Heritage and Modernity
The India Pavilion (Bharat Mandap) not only celebrated heritage but also displayed India’s modern advancements, reflecting the nation’s journey as a hub of innovation, technology, and sustainability while staying rooted in its cultural legacy.
Strengthening India–Japan Ties
Ambassador Sibi George emphasized that India’s presence at Expo 2025 is more than a cultural showcase — it is a reaffirmation of the deep-rooted India–Japan friendship and a joint vision for the future. The celebration embodied the shared values of democracy, creativity, and progress between the two nations.
