Looking back on his three years in India, Shinichiro Imahori shared how he facilitated over USD 2 billion in financing projects, pursued an Executive MBA at ISB, and grew a deep admiration for India’s culture, resilience, and friendships. In a heartfelt farewell note on social media, he reflected on these milestones and the lasting memories he takes with him, sharing below the same.
I have concluded my assignment as of September 30 with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Representative Office in New Delhi, a DFI under the Government of Japan.
Over the past 3 years in India, I had the opportunity to facilitate over USD 2 billion in financing projects, riding on the growing expectations of Japanese investors toward India, in my capacity as Deputy Chief Representative, particularly in renewable energy and infrastructure, contributing from origination through execution support at the forefront of these projects.
At the same time, I completed an Executive MBA at the prestigious Indian School of Business (ISB), balancing the 1.5-year program with my professional responsibilities and learning alongside inspiring ISB peers. The experience was incredibly challenging but rewarding.
During my 3 years in India, I came to deeply appreciate India’s culture of embracing differences, the strong bonds that tie families and friends, and the resilience and kindness forged through vigorous interactions and close human connections. As someone from Japan, I came to respect these qualities, which I believe will continue to drive resilience and sustained economic growth in India.
As I move on to my next chapter, I am especially grateful for the friendships formed through my career and ISB. The memories and experiences in beautiful India will stay with me throughout my life. I look forward to staying in touch, and I hope our paths will cross again!
