On August 26, 2024, the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) at Nagaland University’s Medziphema Campus proudly hosted the Japan Job Fair at the Multi-Purpose Hall. This significant event welcomed 159 students from various agricultural disciplines, including B.Sc. (Hons) Ag, M.Sc. (Ag), and PhD (Ag) programs. Organized by the Embassy of Japan in India, with support from the Japan Agricultural Corporations Association (JACA), the National Chamber of Agriculture, and the Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia, the fair was facilitated by ARMs Incorporation (Nagaland unit) and IDAN, Government of Nagaland.
The fair featured eight prominent Japanese companies: Agricultural Cooperative Corporation MIZUDORI, AZU Ltd, Otsukaen Ltd, Kato Enoki Co., Saikoue Co., Ranmeisha Ltd., Act Farm Ltd., and Top River Ltd. Company representatives, including owners and delegates, were present to recruit students for “Technical Intern Training” and “Specified Skilled Workers (i)/(ii)” programs in agriculture and livestock.
Prof. Akali Sema, Pro Vice Chancellor of SAS, NU, Medziphema Campus, opened the event with a warm welcome and an introduction to Nagaland University. Masami Ota, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in India, highlighted the job fair’s importance in strengthening bilateral ties and providing valuable opportunities for students.
The event included a video presentation on Japanese agriculture and a comprehensive overview of the “Technical Intern Training” and “Specified Skilled Workers (i)/(ii)” programs by Kohei Aoki from the National Chamber of Agriculture. He outlined the expectations for students, the benefits offered by Japanese companies, and the importance of learning Japanese for successful career placements.
Company representatives provided detailed insights into their operations and shared videos showcasing their activities. Students had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one consultations with company representatives, facilitated by interpreters, allowing them to explore potential career paths and internships.
One notable attendee, an agricultural science graduate from Uttar Pradesh, traveled to Nagaland with the aspiration of working in Japan. The job fair provided him and other students with valuable insights into Japanese company cultures and work environments. The direct interactions left a positive impression on many students, who expressed a strong interest in learning Japanese to enhance their career prospects and gain practical experience through internships in Japan.
