The Indo‑Japan Business Council (IJBC) has announced the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Japan Foundation to launch the North‑East Japanese Teacher Development Pilot (NE‑JTDP).
This initiative is designed to strengthen Japanese language education in North‑East India by supporting the development of locally trained educators. The pilot program will be conducted under the guidance of a Japan Foundation Language Advisor, laying the groundwork for long‑term educational and cultural engagement between India and Japan in the region.
The MoU was signed by:
Rajeev Gupta, Chairman, North East India Committee, IJBC
Koji Sato, Director General, Japan Foundation
As part of the next phase, IJBC and the Japan Foundation will identify suitable partner institutions in North‑East India to host the pilot cohort.
“Together, we look forward to working with institutions and stakeholders across the region to take this initiative forward,” said Rajeev Gupta.
The NE‑JTDP marks a significant step in expanding cultural diplomacy and educational cooperation between India and Japan. By nurturing a new generation of Japanese language teachers in the North‑East, the program aims to create sustainable pathways for cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and regional development.
